DTFDTF Care Guide: How to Wash Printed Shirts So They Last
DTF prints can survive dozens of washes — or crack early — depending on how you wash and dry them. Here is the simple care routine we give customers.
Decoration quality matters, but home care decides whether a DTF shirt looks new next season.
Wash
- Turn the shirt inside out
- Cold or warm water — avoid hot
- Mild detergent — no bleach
- Wash with similar colours
Dry
- Tumble low or hang dry
- Skip high-heat cycles that stress adhesive
Ironing
Avoid ironing directly on the print. Iron inside out or use a cover sheet on low.
Why this matters
Heat and harsh chemistry age any transfer. Pair good care with the right method from day one — what DTF is · DTF vs screen.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use fabric softener?
Better to skip softeners on printed areas — they can leave residue. When unsure, hang dry.
Is dry cleaning okay?
Ask us for the specific blank and print — many customers do best with gentle home wash.
When can I wash a new DTF shirt?
Wait at least 24 hours after receiving when possible so the transfer fully settles.
Why did my print wrinkle?
High dryer heat is a common cause. Switch to low heat or air dry.
